Tools

There are many tools/products freely downloadable wich are interesting for NGO's.
In this section we will only mention and give the links for the tools that were used during the regional workshops.

Some tools are developed in-house by Hivos/KPN others are free available in the public domain.

Hivos Tools

SMS Bulktool

The sms bulktool is a tool that enables NGO's to send one to many sms. The tool currently available is version 1.0
The tool is developed by KPN and managed by Hivos. The tool is only available for NGO's participating in the STAR programme. In order to gain access to the online tool please fill out the sms bulktool form.

Dgroups

Dgroups is an virtual workspace for groups and communities interested in international development.
In Dgroups, one can find the online tools and services needed to support the activities of a team, a group, a network, a partnership or a community.
Dgroups is also a place to find groups who are interested in the same topics in international development as you.

Hivos is one of the implementing organisations for Dgroups. If you as a NGO would like to start your own Dgroups, please fill out the application form and send it to Hivos.

Other free tools

Skype

Skype is a tool for online communication, chat as well as phone (Voice Over IP).
It enables NGOs to communicate free from computer to computer and for limited charges from computer to landline/mobile phones.

NGO in a Box

NGO-in-a-box provides technical service providers and support staff within NGO's with bespoke box-sets of tools and materials aggregated around specific themes. The boxes most relevant for NGO's are the:

• The open publishing box
• The security box
